Best new discovery from last year: Taiga, a marbled green heart from True North Karen.

Girl Girl's Weird Thing was new to me last year and it was fantastic in all aspects--flavor, size, production. I am growing it again in 2020. I did not grow KBX last year and greatly missed it so it will be back in 2020 after 1 year absence.

Best "discovery" from our own lines was Agi Red. Last year, 4 plants in a trial section. In 2020 we will be growing at least four 100 ft rows (200+ plants) and it will be our farm's featured variety.

If you haven't tried [B]Lillian's Yellow[/B], I highly recommend it. I think I'm going to start another thread on this variety as I am curious why I rarely see it mentioned on this forum.

I found a recipe for "Pasta with 15 Minute Burst Cherry Tomato Sauce" from Epicurious. It is amazing made with a red non-sweet cherry such as Chadwick's. When made with Sungold it is absolutely sublime.

I came across this some years ago and was intrigued. Maybe one day I will have enough SunGolds at the same time to try it out.

Hint. Hint. Hint. Hint. I'd like to see Lillian's Yellow Heirloom get wider distribution. The reason it doesn't may be that it generally can have extremely few seeds in each tomato.

Best new to me variety from last year: Canadian Heart

Must Grows: there are about 50 varieties that begin the year as "must grows" and get cut down to 15 between now and March. We shall see what this list looks like later.

Best new-to-me variety in 2019 was Cosmic Eclipse, hands down. It's prolific and has excellent flavor and an eye-catching appearance.



Must-grows: Marglobe and a few of its relatives (Rutgers, Glovel, Marvelosa, etc.), Green Mustang, Jaune Flamme, Maglia Rosa, SunGold, Snow White or Super Snow White, a pink Brandywine Sudduth's cross I'm trying to develop into an early-season small pink beefsteak, and a Dwarf Project chocolate cherry still in development.


Based on other Tomatovillians' recommendations, 2020 will welcome Azoychka, Nepal, Galina, and Porter.
