Last Plant standing: sugar rush is still producing. Cherokee purple, black krim and heirloom pineapple still have a few green tomatoes but I've pulled most from the plants.

Peppers: Reaper, sungold habenero, chocolate ghost, roulette still have a few unripe peppers.

We've had several frost advisories over the past few weeks but probably tonight will be a hard frost since they are calling for 27F /-3 C.

I still have kale, kallettes, onions, snow peas, beets and leeks that won't mind the frost.

I hate to say it but I'm kind of enjoying the end of the garden season. Time to plan for next year's garden.

I quit spraying, tying up, and pruning my tomato plants over a month ago and following a hurricane I now have a real mess on my hands. Still I am getting a few nice tomatoes with Arkansas Traveler probably doing the best ripening with the colder nights and cooler days. I am still getting tomatoes from almost all the varieties that are still alive though some are doing much better than others. Flavor certainly isn't as good as back in the summer but still far superior to the alternative. I am still finding it amazing that so many plants are still producing after the beating the hurricane gave them. I am in the process of removing all the plants that only have very small tomatoes on them so when the big freeze finally hits I won't have quite so much to clean up. I still have one old bed planted in May that has some producing plants but will be removing them in the next week or so leaving me with only the few plants set out in July.

Some of my late planted bell peppers are doing quite well despite losing many limbs to the high winds from the hurricane. My okra is quickly dying as the temperatures drop so digging those small trees out is a chore I'm not looking forward to. I pulled up the last of my fall beans which didn't recover from the wind damage so now all I have to look forward to is cool weather crops for a few months if I can get them all planted and the squirrels will leave them alone.

Last Plant Standing: My sugar bush tomato plant is still producing. I pulled at least 30 small green tomatoes yesterday that should ripen indoors in the next two weeks. Not bad for an area that usually has a hard frost on October 13.

For us this year there are two spectacular varieties right now (end of season).

Captain Lucky and an OP line we developed from Orange Jazz and a hybrid beefsteak.

Orange Jazz, on the other hand, has been completely kaput for weeks.
