Thanks Tom, I took mine to bathe in the sun saturday and sunday. They loved it. I am afraid to leave them out while at work because they are fragile ultil they develop at least 4 true leaves. So if this week turns sunny again will leave them in a cardboard box protected from the wind.

Farmette, I would not worry too much. Trying TPS is trial and error. I will keep posting pictures that way you can compare and adjust what you are doing. My lighting is T8 lights,6500K a set of 2 lights and 2 fixtures. Oh and I only water once per week (same with tomatoes and peppers until they are big they get twice waterings) so they get develop the roots deeply.

Thanks, Tom and Wendy for the words of encouragement...I will keep watching for updates of yours.

This thread has been quite helpful to me. I just started my second batch of true potato seed. Fortunately, the the first batch was/is fairly forgiving.

I am glad macmex.

Sowing so densely had one advantage, I got some seedlings to grow longer and those were transplanted deep yesterday 5 wks after sowing. On other hand I spend more than few hours separating seedlings, next year probably count the seeds.

These are few pics when potting up LaPan, Yungay and Huagalina. The odd looking seedling at the end is huagalina...

I have a hardtime with the small ones not wanting to pinch them so I put them in a secondary pots for getting them to tuberize for seeds tubers to sent to the tropics.

My Reiche Tom and All Blue TPS are growing well. Have had trouble with germination of Agria Blue Blood and Azul Rose. Reseeded and now have Azul Rose, but am out of Agria Blue Blood. Am sure it has nothing to do with the seed; it must be something with my germination. Wendy when you write of pinching them, what do you mean?

wmontanez April 24, 2011 03:44 PM

Pinching or cutting the grow tip to eliminate the weak seedlings. I can't kill the plants ...with tomatoes I give them away when I have extra

Wendy is doing great with her seedlings.

You are doing well Wendy, but man you are going to have a lot of plants to give away

wmontanez April 24, 2011 05:01 PM

Well normally I do not have many that many extras but with TPS this time due to being very busy at work I didn't have time to count the seeds when I had to sow mid march... just sprinkle them and wow! the germination was very good. I think after the potting up experience yesterday I probably make sure to sow next time only few seeds since germination was very good.
Well normally I do not have many that many extras. I probably make sure to sow next time only few seeds since germination was very good.
Sounds great, Wendy. With sowing on the floor and access to windowsills prohibited, my germination is "naturally" lower, but TPS will probably be OK anyway, even if I have to rely on pallettes at the allotment wrapped in plastic bags.

I was potting up the seedlings because once again I won't be able to put them in the ground until 2 weeks from today. I found some tubers forming

I have notice that my Yungay seed has segregated for leaf shape. Some have deep lobes at the base while most are smooth.

I got flowers on the 1lb sampler. Nothing yet on the tps seedlings.

Some more updates/pictures on the TPS growing this year. These are few of the 15 or so pots I got going... I ran out of soil and maybe I added extra soil too late :?!?: they seem behind but growing well now after some losses due to excess rain/damping off
