I like the red hearts. From which I cultivated, I chose these:
Anna Russian, Mayo´s delight, Alice, Kukla´s Portuguese Heart, Fresa.
Which are the best I do not know.
Wes is a very good variety. I also like George Detsikas Italian Red, which I now remember we talked about before, and only some of the fruit on the plant are heart-shaped. So maybe it is not a true heart.

I was going to say Kardinal Mazarini, but now that I look it up, it is technically a pink, not a red: http://t.tatianastomatobase.com/wiki/Mazarini
Yes, wehave talked about George before, and nope, not a true heart.

Same reasoning, I could have mentioned Prue.

http://t.tatianastomatobase.com/wiki/Prue

Which gives all sorts of shapes, including heart shapes, and is completely stable in doing that as Tom Galluci found, and others since have also discovered.

Vladimir,

Anna Russian is pink, not red
Mayo's Delight I've grown but would have to look it up
Alice's Egypt, is the one I think you are referring to, and yes,it is red.

Kukla is red

Fresa I love but it is a large pink heart.

Regardless of color you have some excellent varieties that you will be growing this summer, and that's great.:)
I'm the person who is late making a list.

First,Charline,if I look at a pink tomato, the exterior is pink b/c it has a clear epidermis I cut into it and the inside is red. Take a red tomato, they have a yellow epidermis, and the inside is red.

So I'm not so sure about an exterior color making a difference in taste or in any other way. Just my opinion.

You asked for red hearts, so here's some that I really do like and have grown most of them several times for either seed offers or SSE listings.

In no particular order, but I do have my favorites.;)

German Red Strawberry
Indiana Red
Kukla's Portuguese Red Heart
Sheryl's Portuguese Red Heart
Linnie's Oxheart
Milka's Red Bulgarian
Reif Red Heart
Ukrainian Heart
Wes
Fish Lake Oxheart, the original red/pink version also
Bobbie
Danko
Provenzano
Russian 117, double flat heart
Aunt Sophie
Mom's Heart
Favorite Vacation
Grandee
Orlinoe Serdtse

I don't think Milka's Red Bulgarian belongs on this (heart) list, Carolyn?

Mazarini and Rozovyi Myod (aka Pink Honey) are my favorite pink hearts.

ginger2778 January 28, 2018 09:11 AM

Wes, best red heart IMHO.

ginger2778 January 28, 2018 09:12 AM

Dotson's Lebanese Heart gets honorable mention, very large and meaty.(I have seeds in my offer) it's a pink though, said this to make Carolyn happy. (Are you happy Carolyn?)

I love Wes, as well. Great balanced flavor. Slowed down a little bit for me during the hottest part of the summer, as most varieties do, but they started up again in the early fall.

Correct Steve, but at least Tania agrees with me that it tastes great.;)

Marsha, since when did Omar's Lebanese Heart become red, which is what is being asked for in this thread as in red hearts? Many of us know it's pink. And many more everywhere, actually probably worldwide, will soon find out that it's pink as well.

Happy to see Tatiana has the name right. Dotson’s Lebanese heart is tasty although really late for me like Omar’s was. It’s better in a hot long season garden. You should try it for yourself Carolyn. I imagine quite a few are growing it this year from seeds sent out by Darin, Marsha and me, i think as well it’s in Marsha’s current offer again if folks want to try it.

Karen, I think you have forgotten that Darin sent seeds to both Marsha and myself, and when sent to me he called it possibly a heart. It was Dutch, as one of my seed producers to whom I gave seeds who confirmed that for Darin,oh heck,I don't want to go thru all of this again.

And yes, Dutch sent me some seeds and YES, I did have Rob,a local fellow who now raises my seedlings for me for home and other locally to whom I give seedlings so yes, I have grown it here at home.

And I think you've also forgotten my other post where I said that LOTS of Folks, possibly worldwide, would soon be growing it. I'm looking at my 2017 SSE Annual Yearbook right now and I didn't see it at first, but someone called to my attention that a Dwayne Dotson was a new Lifetime member,so I chased that one down as well, especially since that person isn't even listed as an SSE member. To me, that was, shall we say, well ,strange.

How about we agree to disagree on the naming of that heart version, for I have kept those three very contentious threads in my faves about all of it.

Carolyn, and Tania just listed Darin as he wanted to be listed , as Dr.Darin Dotson. I've been a long time, lifetime member of SSE, have all the Yearbooks going back to 1976, and I have never seen anyone refer to themselves as Dr, either at Tania's site where I go to look up info almost every day or here at Tville and that includes Craig Le Houllier, Tad Smith,Ph.D,then Sodak, who is the MD in charge of all the health related agencies for South Dakota, but I think he recently retired and also includes Chris from NC,who has never referred to himself as a PhD here at Tville,There are others I could mention, but enough is enough, you get my drift.

Like I said, the tomato was already released, last year, as Dotson’s Lebanese heart according to the wishes of its discoverer. I do hope everyone enjoys it who grows it.
I still have a few seeds left if you would like to try it.
As to the rest, I’m sure a person may use whatever title or credential they wish that they have earned.

Back to RED heart tomatoes

I had a gentleman’s agreement with Darin (Darin Dotson) to co-name the variety in question with an aka (also known as). This agreement which Darin agreed to, was between Darin and myself, and no one else. It was stated in open forum and confirmed via PM! Other people gave Darin suggests in the forums here at Tomatoville and advised him to consider other options. This was after our agreement (between Darin and myself) had already been made.
I view Darin's choice to break this agreement as dishonorable and disrespectful.

Way too many of those types in the Tomato community.

But at least when they finally reveal their true character... then at least we all know who isn't to be trusted.
