I am gonna get a dog soon. Any tips on which breed makes 5he best gopher killer/deer chaser?
You dont want a deer chasing dog they can break their neck on a tree chasing deer. I had a Pit Bull mix that would dig up gophers and a cat that would hang out at the hole and eat them as they came out. Now here is the problem the dog needs to know not to dig in the garden. Mine did for some reason. But he would dig car sized holes going after gophers. He would be down so far the dirt wouldn't come out of the hole and he would half bury himself digging deeper. Worth |
I planted runner beans along a fence line. I dug all the holes (Runner beans were in solo cups) and started watering the first hole to plant the first plant - and watched each hole fill up with water down the fence line. Pocket gophers or something of that sort. The tunnel was about the size of a golf ball around.
Your raised bed looks great. :) |
Golden reterviers for the gophers, they chomp them whole. Chasing deer get dog shot here in the wild, wild, West.

The dog will be in my fenced four acres and will chase the deer out.
whoose, people will shoot a dog for chasing deer up there? That's crazy to me. I've been known to chase deer too and maybe I'm lucky I haven't been shot! |
Lots of Crazy's
Some pretty weird folk around here. They especially do not like dogs that chase cows and a little less for deer. They think a pet dog is little more than a coyote if it hits there bottom line with cows.

We came home from town one time and my moms doberman got loose and was chasing my pet Brahman bull.
The dog had split the bulls ear and it was everything my mom could do to keep me from shooting it. Worth |
Time to Plan
Time to plan for the building/grow season. Once these are done they will probably out last the gardener.
