Over 70 plants and 40 different varieties
 

Hi,

I am in Chula Vista and have over 70 plants and 40 different varieties of tomatoes. Have some plants left if anyone needs them. Picking tomatoes every day.

Well, guys, my year was officially miserable. Blight got a lot of everything. That said, I got a few good tomatoes, before destruction.

I'd love to eventually start a regular SoCal tomato gathering. I guess i won't be doing it this year though. Hope there there are people out there who want to do it and had a better year than I did.

As a newbie I would love to arrange a meet and greet for a tasting, trading etc sometime this season.

Did anything happen in 2011. Anything Planned for 2012?

2011 was the worst year for me ever! LOL! Probably got 6 tomatoes off of 5 plants. This year is super! Great weather, no May gray or temps in the low 40's. I'm hoping to have tons this year. Linda, Barbara how are your maters doing?

I live in San Bernardino County and I know many others live in Riverside County. Should we start a gathering that included more of us for 2012? I don't mind driving.

My tomato's have been a failure almost every year. I hope this is a better year too. I do have one tomato set. :)) My season is short here so I won't have tomatoes until late this year. It would be nice to taste some of these tomatoes that I have been working so hard to get. Right now I have 33 varieties in the ground. I have more varieties that I planted by seed for my fall crop.

CinnamintStick, Coronabarb lives in Corona and Linda lives in Sun City. I know they would be interested in a get together. I'm only growing 9 plants this year. They are:

*Old German (desperate for one last heirloom, don't have high hopes for it this year.

If we get together over the summer we can trade seeds, should have plenty by then.

We should try to meet up "down south" or "out west" for the best temps. I dont really have many in the ground yet.

I think this is going to be a great year for our maters! Linda, I have over 20 maters on my Stupice and it's not a foot tall! What a hearty tomato. Hopefully Barbara will post soon and give us some input on where she stands with her garden. Wherever anyone wants to go is fine by me. Maybe we can arrange a carpool? A BYOF picnic?:yes:

Maybe we want to attend one of his tastings, he always has dozens of maters. Barb and I volunteered at one of his tastings here in Temecula and it was great? What does everyone think?

My tomatoes are looking great. Nothing is eating them yet.

A picnic sounds great too. How does a pot luck sound? Maybe show off some of are garden recipes.

Im surprised at the low turnout of socal members compared to NC or Florida. They seem to have the corner on the tomato market. I was under the impression that california was very ag friendly :)

I don't think it's a social thing, I haven't had a decent tomato harvest in years! Last year I got like 5 tomatoes all season, but this year the weather is sending out good vibes and my maters are looking great!

We will definately have a get-together this year and hopefully a seed trading event at the same time!:lol:
