Gorgeous Zinnia's Karla. I love zinnia's too, and have to have them for my butterfly garden. I grew a mixed packet of California Giants, but the color below is my favorite color out of that packet. It's almost like an unreal color for a flower, it has like a fluorescents to it. I wish I knew the name, it's not Purple Prince. I took this picture towards the end of the season, when they always get powdery mildew and leaf spots. I saved seeds, so this color will be all over my front yard.
These are Will Rogers and Daffodil, what I use every year along the fence by the edge of the garden. Those colors seem to attract the most butterflies for me. The height is just right for me for deadheading but not so tall they eventually fall over.

Thank you very much for sharing these beautiful photos.
I remember as a child that there were many butterflies where he lived like the ones he has in the photos, unfortunately, for many years I have not seen any again.

@Karla, do you seed save?

ScottinAtlanta February 1, 2019 02:09 PM

How do yall keep your zinnias short? Mine grow 8 feet tall and are impossible to stake.

Karla February 1, 2019 03:14 PM

I do save seed from my zinnias.

Karla February 1, 2019 03:18 PM

Scott, your zinnia is pretty. Love the color.
Last summer, I enjoyed! the butterflies and hummingbirds.
My zinnias grew about 3 ft. tall.
I like plenty of color in the flower garden.

Mine gets really tall, but the wind knocks them down.

I grew almost every variety of zinnia that harris seed carries last summer. I liked Bennary's Giant Mix and Fruit Smoothie Mix, also the Cactus Mix. My favorite potted varieties are Short Stuff and Zinnitia.

Cole, I can't find a single hit for Zinnitia. Where did you get your seeds?

You buy a short variety.

Maybe I spelled it wrong. Harris has it. I actually like Short Stuff better, but the seeds are harder to find. The color mix is a little heavy with orange. You dont quite get an equal number of each color.

Thank You!

Zinnia mode

Thanks to everyone's lovely photos and some online search images (it can't possibly be my fault :)) ), I'm in zinnia mode.

So I went looking for Fruit Smoothie Mix and didn't see it anywhere online except Burpee and Home Depot - maybe Harris stopped carrying it? I did find it at our local Home Depot, though :) Thanks Cole_Robbie!

Has anyone tried the Tequila Lime variety?

Very Pretty! Zinnias literally suck butterflies out of the sky.
