I took these pictures this morning of my Brandy Boys. It was dark out so not the greatest pics. They are loaded up with fruit at the bottom of the plants and tons of blossoms above that I hope will set. It started raining before I could take pictures of the Brandywine Sudduth but those look to be just as productive as Brandy Boy so far. I will take some pictures of the Brandywines later today when I get home.

Loving these so far... :-)

Thank you BarbFL for the Brandy Boy seeds to test with. I'm going to order some and will repay you... :-)

These are a few of the Brandywine Sudduths on one plant. So far the Brandywines are neck and neck with the Brandy Boys. They were germinated and transplanted at the same time.

The Big Beefs were transplanted later so arent as far along yet.

Stay tuned!

Ginny - Your tomatoes look amazing. My Big Beefs are doing better than ever with bigger and more tomatoes.

You don't need to replace those Brandy Boy seeds. I'm really impressed with you getting so many Brandywine tomatoes (in Florida) and interested in what you think when you compare the taste of the 3 of them.

So in the fall, I grew Big Beef, BrandyBoy, Big Brandy (still producing since summer) and Garden Treasure F2s and Garden Treasure F2s were the clear winner in taste.

Can Brandy Boy F1 ever be RL?

They cannot, PL is a recessive and they stay that way unless a cross happens

Thank you Mark. I've got another ??? I guess I could call it, 'Not Brandy Boy'

Thanks Barb,

I think the Brandywine Sudduth which I'm growing this time seems to be more productive so far than Brandywine pink which I have grown in the past, at least on my garden. But the weather has also been more conducive.

Since you grew them side by side can you rank Garden Treasure, Big Brandy, Brandy Boy and Big Beef by taste and then rank by production? Thanks

Ginny

Mine are flowering now and are the biggest plants in the garden.
Those PLs look so nice n big. My potatoes don't have leaves that big.

Gardeneer - you must be loving growing tomatoes in NC compared to PNW??

Hudson_WY ' my first Brandy Boy is breaking color. I cant wait to taste it. The Brandywine Sudduths have some cat facing but getting large. I probably wouldnt have tried the Brandy Boys but this thread convinced me. And happy I did so far.... :-)

So cool!

Ginny - Your Brandy Boy and Brandywine sudduths look great! I am jealous - you are 6 weeks (at least) ahead of our plants!

Gardeneer - You should have a good crop of Brandy Boy this year as Ginny mentioned. Our plants may be similar in size?

Anything Potato Leaf seems to grow better in our GH than regular leaf - except cherry tomatoes. Is there an indeterminate PL cherry tomato variety? If so - I'd like to try it.

Here's a start http://tatianastomatobase.com/wiki/Category:Potato_Leaf_Tomatoes only 423 to look up.

Ginny, though we have set of challenges in NC but we don't have that lingering cold and drizzle for ever. I am almost 2 month ahead here compared to PNW. Traditional recommende plantin up there is Mothers Day. By then I will be harvesting.
Yeah, by August we might be sizzled but I can grow second crop to last up to Thanksgiving.

Thanks for reminding me of a great source! Can anyone recommend a potato leaf cherry tomato variety that is prolific and has great taste? I am tempted to try Brandywine Cherry - any reviews?

AlittleSalt April 11, 2017 04:29 PM

Medovaya Kaplya is the best tasting PL cherry I know of. http://tatianastomatobase.com/wiki/Medovaya_Kaplya I forgot it is PL until I went out in the garden and saw it.

Carolyn will tell you how good it is :) Very Prolific Indet.
