How did everyone's over wintered peppers do? Mine are mostly just sticks, but are popping out new leaves as fast as my grandma used to spit snuff juice.

I've got a Sweet Pickle little ornamental pepper that is almost 2 years old. It's doing very well, full of ripe & ripening peppers.

I have an amazing row of peppers still in my greenhouse. My dear husband forgot to turn off the little electric heater (oops. that was very expensive) and they seem to have survived in the greenhouse where I planted them after my spring plants were emptied out of there... green sticks with a few buds starting to swell... hip hip hooray. I would have never thunk of trying this....

I tried with one Jalapino, but it died a tortured death, by aphids. I tried to plunge the plant upside down in a bucket of water to soak the aphids but their babies still made through and continued the work.
Tomato plants are not bothered by aphids.

They are generous plants! Sweet peppers are easy to consume or give away.



Superhots - fermented pepper sauces, pepper jellies, dried and powdered, frozen whole for future use, use fresh in cooking......

I over-wintered two jalapenoes (a chichimeca and a TAM) and one super-hot. They both did really well, and are back in the garden, but still in their pots.

I have a good friend who I associate with a good bit in our fields of work. He eats jalapenoes like I eat tomatoes (in the winter, a half gallon of the pickled jalapenoes lasts his family less than a month.) I called him today to disucss something work-related, and he told me that he was leaving the co-op and they didn't have any jalapenoes (people are making a run on plants around here, apparently for their "victory" gardens.) I told him I had a few left that I'd started from seed, and he was welcome to them. I dropped them at the back door of his office this afternoon.

I realized this evening that the seedling peppers I've planted out are more than I'll need this summer, and that those over-wintered plants belong in my friend's garden. I plan to drop them at his mailbox tomorrow.
